Elevator service calls can be unpredictable, and one call this August was so exception. Maintenance Technician Colin Clow and Helper Tim Panton were called to the Steamboat Square Apartments in Albany, NY, for a rather unusual reason. “The caller said a kitten was stuck in a hoistway,” recalls Service & Repair Superintendent Jonathan Campbell.
Colin and Tim sprang into action, meticulously checking every elevator in the 12-story building. They could hear faint meowing, but the elusive kitten remained out of sight. It wasn’t until Colin ran the elevator up on inspection that Tim finally spotted the black-and-white kitten peeking out from behind the hoistway fascia on the ninth floor.
Prioritizing safety, the duo carefully rescued the tiny feline from its precarious perch and the kitten was seemingly unscathed by its adventure. “Technicians rarely encounter live animals in hoistways,” Jonathan notes. “It’s a real mystery how the poor cat got in there.”
The kitten, verified a stray, has since been brought to the local humane society and has found a forever home!
This heartwarming rescue highlights the unpredictable nature of elevator service calls and the dedication of technicians like Colin and Tim, who go above and beyond to ensure safety and care in every situation. Thank you, Colin and Tim, for rescuing their new furry friend.
